Bassoonist and Luthier

As Bassonnist

Miguel Ángel Mesa Díaz, born in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, finished his bassoon studies at MUSIKENE (the Higher School of Music of the Basque Country) in 2008. He has been a member of the JONDE (Joven Orquesta Nacional de España) and the Gustav Mahler Jugend Orchestra. He has worked with and frequently continues to collaborate with orchestras such as: Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León, Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria, Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia, Orquesta Sinfónica Ciudad de Granada, Orquesta Sinfónica de Bilbao, Symphonieorchester der UDK Berlin, Gulbenkian Orchestra (Portugal), Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife, Real Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla, Real Filharmonía de Galicia, Orquesta Sinfónica del Principado de Asturias, Orquesta Sinfónica de Radio Televisión Española, and Orquesta Sinfónica de Madrid.

In the period from 2017 to 2019 he held the position of  bassoon professor at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Canarias, the Higher Music School of the Canaries.

He is currently Principal Bassoon at Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria.

As Luthier

He began his training to become a luthier in 2005, overlapping with his bassoon studies, at the San Sebastian Higher School of Music in the Basque country. Here he took two academic courses in instrument repair and maintenance with Alipio Guinaldo.

At that point he took on his first complementary instrument repair jobs, and in 2013 he began to dedicate himself professionally to the trade. He specialized in bassoon repair, the instrument studied, soon performing repairs for a large number of principal bassoonists in the main orchestras of Spain, Portugal, and Germany. He has received training on all kinds of repair work, including the manufacture of metalwork parts such as keys and mechanisms, electrolysis for silver plating and other types of precious metals, soldering techniques, including silver soldering, and the handling of mechanical tools such as lathes and milling machines.

In the area of woodwork, he has the expertise for the complete restoration of any part of any kind of wooden material, as well as the repair of cracks and breaks, varnishing and other finishes, sealing, and instrument optimization.

The most important part of his training has been through hands-on experience, in finding a great deal of real solutions to practical problems.

 

David Mesa

Ingenier in Charge of Key Working and Machining

David Mesa Díaz holds a Degree in Industrial Engineering from the Universidad de La Laguna. In his work, he specializes in mechanism assembly and supervision, key modification, design and personalization, as well as the manufacture of parts and support tools.

He also provides wood treatment services such as varnishing, crack repairs, etc. He has vast experience in precision mechanics and all types of industrial electronics.
